IT POLICY PROCEDURES AND STANDARDS

By hampy68 ·
MY BANK IS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN A 5-BANK MERGER AND THE NEW ORGANISATION (BANK) IS GOING TO HAVE ABOUT 100-200 BRANCH OFFICES NATION WIDE IN THE NEXT ONE YEAR.
.
I AM A MEMBER OF THE TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION TEAM THAT IS REQUIRED TO DEAL WITH ALL ISSUES OF INTEGRATION INTO THE NEW BANK. I AM TO IMMEDIATELY DEVELOP THE FOLLOWING STANDARD DOCUMENTS;

1. IT SECURITY POLICY DOCUMENT
2. IT PROCEDURES AND STANDARDS DOCUMENT
3. IT ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE
4. DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN AND BUSINESS CONTINIUTY PLAN
.
IN ORDER NOT TO RE-INVENT THE WHEEL, I HOPE TO OBTAIN WORKING PAPERS ALREADY DEVELOPED BY TECHREPUBIC MEMBERS THAT MIGHT BE ADAPTED TO SUIT MY NEW BANK, BECAUSE OF THE TIME CONSTRAINTS I HAVE.
.
WE ARE GOING TO DEPLOY AN INTERNATIONAL BANKING APPLICATION FOR THE DAILY BANKING OPERATIONS WITH VARIOUS INPUT CHANNELS. ANCILLIARY APPLICATIONS WILL REVOLVE AROUND HUMAN RESOURCE/PAYROLL, FIXED ASSET MANAGEMENT, MESSAGING COLLABORATION SYSTEMS, SMS BANKING, INTERNET BANKING, TELEPHONE BANKING,
PAYMENT SYSTEMS/MONEY TRANSFERS ETC.
.
THUS I NEED TO DRAW UP A TYPICAL IT ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE FOR A BANK OF THIS SIZE, DRAW UP THE REQUIRED IT POLICIES TO DRIVE THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT IN VIEW OF THE BUSINESS STRATEGY OF THE BANK.
.
I KNOW I WILL GET RESPONSES FROM MEMBERS.
THANKS.

how come you guys get all the jobs?
well you are on the right track trying to get others to do your work for you. but at techrepublic?
if you want something that has already been developed i'd be getting the phone numbers of my it colleagues at the other 5 banks. not techrepublic. get real woman!
i'd be going to a bookstore

Your bank should already have all those policies in place and if they don't, then start calling your colleagues at the other banks.

Remind me again what bank this is that you work for??? I'll make sure that I don't do any business there!!

Well for a start you'll need to consider what OS are involved as the majority will not be Windows on the server side of things but some form of Nix.

Really it is very straight forward from this point on work out what is required on the server side and plan a DR Plan then remember to follow it religiously.

As this is supposed to be a bank there are set regulations in different parts of the world that cover these issues so first you'll need to look at the regulations covering all the branches and then start to design "THE PLAN!" You'll most likely need to bring in the Legal team of the bank to help you out on this one as they have the experience in these issues.

If any of the merging banks are all MS only then the first thing that you'll need to do is dump their Server OS and work with something a lot more secure but I've yet to see any form of Main Frame that runs Windows so I really can not see that as an issue.

However if they insist on using Windows on the server side of things resign now and escape while you can as if they are going down that route they will be broke within a month and you'll be held responsible and most likely find yourself explaining what you have done to the Authorities who are responsible for policing banks.
