Java Servlets behind MS Proxy 2.0

By advarg101 ·
I have recently upgraded our IIS server to ver 4.0, which also runs MS Proxy 2.0 and Novell's GroupWise WebAccess 5.5(enhancement pack installed.) Service Pack 3.0. Since the upgrade, anybody behind the proxy who tries to access a site or address with "servlets" in the address gets an error (404 error)and the page cannot be displayed. This does not happen if I am browsing from the server itself. Please help.

Java servlets require a separate engine on IIS 4.0 to support them. IIS 4.0 does not natively support Java servlets. You can find a lot of great information on Java servlets on IIS 4.0 at MS-Knowledgebase article Q240842.

There is also a great resource on the web for web professional dedicated to sharing information about Java servlets. Point your browser to www.servletforum.com.

An excellent Java servlet tutorial can be found at http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/Servlet-Tutorial/index.html

Also, in the clients' browser options, be sure to select "Use HTTP 1.1".

Good luck!

The techrepublic web server placed a space between the "m" and the "l" of the above URL for the Java servlet tutorial.
