Java Swing not responding to mouse

    Locked

    by steveaaaaaaaaa8 ·

    Hi,

    I am running Windows 2000 SP4 and J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8.

Any programs which use Java as their GUI do not respond to the mouse. Only keyboard will work.

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse which works fine with all other applications.

When I open the Mouse properties in the Control Panel, I receive error:

“Some mouse settings might not work until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port on your computer or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Bluetooth technology.”

    Could this be related?

I’ve searched and not found any mention of J2SE and Win2K having an incompatiblity (with Swing) yet.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I don’t have an answer, but we have a similar situation here. We use IBM Host-On-Demand 7.0 (HOD) to access our IBM mainframe. When Update 8 was applied, our HOD would not work.

      Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried a mouse that doesn’t use the Microsoft Intellimouse software?

Have you updated anything else on your system ?

I can’t test your exact setup but in the past we have had problems with some drivers interfering with the JVM.

Installing a PS/2 mouse did not resolve it until Microsoft Intellimouse software was uninstalled and the PC rebooted.

      All symptoms have gone now.

It would be interesting to know what Intellimouse software is compatible with J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8, if any, and why moving from Update 7 to Update 8 mandated killing support for a common/core mouse driver software.
