Define "better"

by Slayer_ In reply to JAVA vs PHP

If you mean usability... Java can be both server and client based, PHP is always server based.

Java requires the client computer to have Java installed, which seriously reduces the number of users that can browse your webpage, PHP has no such client requirements.

Personally, if a webpage I go to requires Java, I always go elsewhere. I have Java installed on a VM and that's it

They are very different languages

And are used for very different things.
In my experience, PHP is used mainly for logic behind websites etc. Giving a webpage user interaction, not completely unlike javascript, but PHP has ties into SQL scripts.
On the other hand Java is used to create applets and applications.

So really, it depends on what you want to use them for.

I want to apply/use PHP in ERPs, CRM and the sort. And I mean better as have more advantages than the other one, like in general.

Since ERP and CRM ...

are both data-intensive applications, the ties between PHP and database managers are probably tighter than Java.

But that doesn't mean that PHP is "better" - it really depends on what you want to do.

Is a Ferrari "better" than a Peterbilt? If you want to go fast, yes. If you want to haul freight, no. "Best" is dependent on your needs.
