Javascript not working w/IE5.5 beta

By Bubbels556 ·
win98 - My question is pretty much summed up in the title. Now that i've installed IE 5.5 beta, I can no longer access websites that use javascripting. I, of course, have been unsuccessful in uninstalling IE 5.5 beta or reverting back to previousversion (IE 5.0). I've tried downloading & completely reinstalling IE 5.0 over IE 5.5 w/o any luck. I've gone to MS's support site with no help (of course). Prior to installation of IE 5.5 beta my browser was java-enabled. All preferences are setto accept javascripting. I've had to begin using Netscape on the same computer (& javascripting works fine with it), but would prefer IE. Any suggestions?

That's probably why it's a beta :)

Seriously though, the only thing I can think of is the install the old windows scripting host engine (wsh.exe) IE5 had it built in, but I don't know about the 5.5 What this will do is create a file associationfor javascripting to ru through that engine instead of what IE told it to use. You should be able to find that on the microsoft download site.

Believe it or not, this might not be a problem with your beta browser. Check your Network control panel to verify that TCP/IP is the only thing bound to your Dial-Up Adapter, and that TCP/IP is configured correctly for your ISP. Also, check with your ISP to verify that the modem and the DUN connectoid are correctly configured.

In rare instances, I have seen javascript errors caused by misconfigured modems.

Also, if you have NS and it resolves pages while IE5.5beta does not, then you can definitely blame the beta.

inspect your ie5.5 files at your msinfo applet, then run the ie5.5 repair tool found under the tools of the same applet.

1)In internet browser window go to the tools menu, click on internet options, click on the security tab scroll down to Java Permissions and check to see if the disabled button is checked and select the security option you want.
2)To uninstall or restore the previous version,Go to Control Panel, click on the Add/Remove icon, select IE5,then click the remove button,is will give you a window with options, select the prefered option and see what it does, you may have disabled the uninstall for Ie5 when you tried to reinstall IE 5.0
