JavaScript window.open fail to load .docx .xlsx. pptx files in IE7

The same client-side JS code that pops up a new window for .doc .xls and .ppt files works fine with all these pre-MSOffice2007 formats now fails to load .docx .xlsx and .pptx files, which generates IE7 error 404. Any idea???
