JetDirect can't login to NDS.

We tried several diff Jet Direct 500x's and they still can't login into the LAN. On the Jet Direct printout, the comment is "NDS error: cannot login"
Already tried recreated NDS printing objects, reseting the password, reseting the Jet Direct, andeven updating to the most current firmware. We're running SP 6a. And can't go any hgiher Anyone help!!

Frame types are the same and local printing works with this printer.
We now have the JD up in BINDERY mode, but it still won't login. Any ideas? NE one? thanks for your help!

There is a conflict between some of the older JD firmware and older versions of DS. See TID 10016807 from Novell.

Doublecheck that the firmware on your JD500x is at J.08.05 (the latest version for the 500x). Then upgrade your DS to v6.09 (from SP to resolve the problem. You can upgrade the DS without installing the service pack. We are also running SP 6a but upgraded to DS 6.09 several months ago.

This is a problem with Novell's Netware Client v3.2 (Refer to TID 2956428), download and install the Client updates (you may even consider going to v3.21), deleted and recreate the printer related objects.

If you are useing NT workstations there is a problem with Novell client 4.70 install client version 4.71 and it will solve your problem. But when you install 4.71 you get a another small problem when a user changing password they will get a message that says "password not changed" this is a cosmetic problem your password is changed but so what the users will call you anyway. Novell knows about this.

I've run across similar issues in the past. Here's some suggestions

1. Use JetAdmin to reset the JetDirect to factory defaults. This erases all settings, names etc. Be sure to turn the device off and on!
2. Remove all NDS printer, print queue and print server objects associated with the JetDirect.
3. Wait a few minutes for NDS to synchonize (very important)
4. Use NWADMIN and recreate the printer, print server and print queue objects (Tools, Quick setup legacy printing or some such)
5. Use JetAdmin to locate your new JetDirect. Change the settings so that the name matches the print server name defined in NDS and point it to the NDS defined print queue.

This should resolve the issue.

The key is to remove all configuration from the JetDirect, create new NDS objects in NWAdmin and then change the JetDirect name and queue.

When we had situations where JetDirect printservers were unable to authenticate, I used pconsole.exe to clear the password and then reset the JetDirect server. I had problems using nwadmn32.exe because the password was not cleared properly.
