The other day I was in a particular store whose name I will not mention. Let’s just say they are an Authority… on Sports 😉
Any way I am buying an item that costs less than five dollars. The lady begins to ring me up and says can I have your phone number. I say “No”. She looks indignant. A few seconds later she wants my zip code… Jeez! Fine I give her my zip code. I give her my $5 bill and go on my way.
Later that day I find myself at the mall with Mrs. Jimmy-Jam. I go into Sears to buy a cheap pair of sunglasses. I get to the sales counter.
“Would you like to put this on your Sears Charge?”
“No”
“Do you have a Sears charge card?”
“No and I don’t want one”
“I could save you 10% if you sign up today”
Me thinks to myself two dollars is not worth the aggravation I just want to give you my money and be on my way.
I then find myself in a clothing store and the Missus is buying something. Again at the counter.
“Can I have your phone number”
My wife is much less cantankerous than I and divulges this information.
“Can I have your zip code?”
Would you like to sign up for our frequent buyers club?”
“Would you be interested in a 1 year subscription to this magazine?”

Do they realize how much they irritate people when they do that?! It drives me freakin’ nuts! I would be much more apt to give business to a store that takes my money and minds their own d@mn business. Are you listening corporate America?
No you can’t have my phone number, what difference does it make what zip code I live in, if I wanted your charge card I would have told you, I have enough crap hanging from my keep chain so I will not be joining your frequent shopper program today and why in the world are you hawking magazines at a clothing store?! Just take my money and leave me alone!!!
