I'd browse these sites to start with to get some key areas. They occaisionally have some good articles on CIO duties in the new technology oriented business world. also has a CIO Wanted section that usually has the bulk of a job description in each posting. There's also a fairly good book you can check out - New CIO Leader:**395771/qid=1144719994/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-0618855-7328604?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

It has some good material that you can use to build the job description, and might help you hit the ground running and stay ahead. I've not seen any white papers.

Good luck and congrats!

A CIO's job duties are primarily administrative. If you don't have enough admin. experience to write a description of your own job, how do you expect to do it?
