JOB DOWNSIZING

By trindee ·
I have been with a company for 4 years and just recently found out that most of my job responsibilities have been removed because of
modern technology. Should I seek other employment in a hurry or should I wait to be given a package???

Without knowing the particulars...

I'd say it's time to dust off the resume and start looking.

You should use this time to start sowing the seeds while waiting for the next shoe to drop. But I would be careful not to burn any bridges. <enough cliches for ya?>

Who knows... you may even find a better opportunity and be able to exit on your own terms.

Good Luck.

I've done both

You should definately warm up your resume writing skills. But don't give notice just yet.

In one job when my job was outsourced, I was promoted to a new position.

In another, I got 6 months severance and the services of an outplacement company.

You have to judge for yourself what the market is like. If the perfect job comes up, it might be worth not waiting to see what happens. But if the perfect job doesn't present itself, you can afford to wait, and maybe take some training and up your skillset.
