Job hunting after 16 yrs self employed

By ffiloseta ·
Due to the current political situation in my country, Venezuela, I have decided to go somewhere else. This means that after 15 years of being my own boss (I own a software development shop) quite successfully, I will have to hunt for jobs wherever Iland. Previous to that, I only worked for two years after graduating as Systems Engineer and for two different companies.

How can I (if possible) configure my CV so that it includes these fifteen years while keeping it all credible? I mean, therewill be no way to check my references other than with myself.

There are other hot spots, like what part of my experience should I try to lever on, commercial or technical? I mean, one learns so much about so many different things...

Any suggestions ?

Be Honest

On your resume, describe why you left Venezuela. If you have clients who wouldn't mine being contacting, have them available as references when asked.

I find that for very experience people a multi-page resume works best (particularly on the web- My MS Word resume is one page with three pages of attachments to provide details.)

You can check out my resume and its format at URL: http://freepages.work.rootsweb.com/~stobie/Stobie's%20Resume.htm and the referenced pages.

For most online job sites I use my MS Word resume without attachments and refer to the website for further info. I also have a complete MS Word resume with attachments available for download there as well. (Some of the job boards, are not that great on formating/presenting the data.)
