Joining a Domain

By capri ·
I'm having to set up my LAN for the first time; how do I join the domain from the workstations? We are running Win XP on the computers and Win NT 4.0 on the server. We have a router w/firewall with broadband internet service.

I'm going to assume that all of the cables are plugged in correctly. To join a domain from an XP workstation:
1. Right click on My Computer and select properties.
2. Select the Computer Name Tab.
3. Click on the Change button
4. In the "Member of" section click the domain radio button and then type in the name of your domain.
5. You will then be given a username and password box, in here type in a user with rights on the domain (administrator).
6. It will eventually tell you that you successfully joined "*****" domain, reboot.
That's it.

1. Use router ip as ws default gateway address.
2. Are you using DHCP?? if not each client needs to be assigned an address, subnet, and gateway if you are using dhcp and it is properly configured then these should be assigned when the ws is started.
3. You must have XP pro to join domain, right click on my computer and choose properties. Then click on network tab and click on network wizard button, follow the on screen prompts and you should be able to join the nt domain.
