Joining a domain with XP home edition

By bfadero ·
I'm trying to join a domain with a pc running XP home edition. Anytime I try to join, it comes up with an error message saying a domain controller for the domain can not be contacted. This is inspite my making sure that the DNS address and WINS address correspond to that of the Domain. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Its not possible, as most HOME users do not have domains.
You must use Windows XP Pro for joining domains.

The simple answer is that the Home edition of XP is not supposed to join a Domain and it was never intended to do so.

The above hack is a work around but it will sacrifice a lot of functionality of a Domain and really isn't the answer the only correct answer is to upgrade to XP Pro so you get all the benefits of using a Domain.
