Joining Vista Standard Edition to Company Domain

By itadmin ·
We have just purchased our first PC with Vista in the company. Its a Dell laptop with Vista Stndrd Edition but I am having trouble joining to the domain. It does not even give the option to change the network ID or join the domain. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Well if you where to tell us the version of Vista

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Joining Vista Standard Ed ...

As there is no Standard Edition.

there are several versions which fall into 3 distinct categories

1 For Home Use Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, Vista Ultimate

2 Small Business Vista Business which is the equivalent of XP Pro and Vista Business Ultimate.

3 Medium to Large Business Vista Business and Vista Enterprise which is the only version that has the ability to have Software Assurance included.

And then just to confuse things even further you can buy all of these in either 32 or 64 Bit versions so unless you have at the very least Vista Ultimate you will be unable to connect it to a Domain as these lower versions of Vista are cut down Crippled versions of the full product called Enterprise.

If you want to continue to use Vista you can try asking questions here or looking through the already asked questions at the Windows Vista Community

But personally because drivers for Vista are still fairly rare I would strip it our and load XP Pro and work with a known product till Vista Matures enough to be usable.
