I have over 300 images saved as .jpgs which I have from time to time viewed without problem. After some connection problems which required extensive use of System Restore I find I cannot view them. Some of the files appear to have a reduced file size, some appear normal. Whatever programme I try they will not open and they will not write to disc. All I know is that when I check the properties box it says they are BMP windows bitmaps and they are compressed in RLE format. I have spoken at length to MS and they just scratch their heads and say do not know what has happened. They appear unable to say what RLE compression is and why it should have affected these files. The only other operation I recall carrying out is Disk Cleanup. Can anyone offer an explanation as to what happened even if only to protect future pictures. PLEASE.
