JPG Quality

By arichart ·
I have recently moved back to dial-up after being on broadband. After going back to 56k, all picture quality on the internet has gone down the tubes. This seems to have happened automatically with no reason...Does anyone know if this is a setting in IE that can be changed? XP Pro + IE 6.0.2

From what I know there is no actual image quality setting in IE, but a few things you could look for would be:

Ensure desktop resolution hasn't changed (perhaps 256 color or something)

You may be seeing resized images to fit the page, thus not seeing the original but a low quality compression of the original. Just go to Tools>Internet Options in IE, click Advanced and under multimedia you will see Automatically resize images.

This definitely sounds like a graphics setting or driver issue though, have you made any other changes lately that may have changed the resolution?

Nothing has changed except for my connection speed. Thanks anyway.

You can also check on the Advanced tab, that "Smart image dithering" is checked. Turning this ON uses up more bandwidth and processor speed, but can improve image quality.

This has already been checked, but thanks.

Do you have one of the services with "accelerated" dial up connection? If so, they sacrifice quality for speed.
