Hey everyone, I’ve been digging for a decent MP3 player for a while. I-River and i-Pod’s didn’t cut it soundwise. Rio’s…well not bad but I liked the Samsung sound better.
Samsung has included SRS, True Bass and WOW filters to thier EQ settings and I find it gives the Samsung’s WAAAAAY more ‘punch’.
So I decided to go for the 256 MB FLASH model YP780 (though the 196MB is kinda sexy) over the larger hard drive players, seen far too many problems with them not covered by warranty, plus they skip like a school girl.
Well every review I read bitched about the earbuds and I agree, you need ears like Dumbo for them to fit (HUGE BUDS!)and as a person very ‘in tune’ with audio, I find earbuds just lack in definition, separation and they add too much colour.
So I forked out an extra $45.00 for some Sennheisers, WOW what a difference. The player uses 2 AAA’s instead of one so the battery life is about 12-15 hrs (so far played 6 and it’s half drained).
Storage, some people think that 256 MB is not enough music, well it transfers that from PC to player in about 3 minutes. I managed to cram an entire Metallica album, the first disk of Judas Priest live, and about 40 other mixed 80’s tunes (simple minds, men at work and other great classics from one of the most creative music era). STILL have 19 MB left!!!
Pros: Best portble MP3 player sound available, hands down. FEATURES!! My god, this thing does everything. FM tuner w/recording from radio to MP3, voice recorder, line in recording etc. I am not one to buy quantity over quality but Samsung hits both feature set and quality head-on with this one.
Cons: Ear buds too big and I am not an earbud fan at all.
Price: 199.99 CDA + $20 for 2 year over the counter warranty on everything included. (mfr, doesn’t cover display glitches, dead headphones etc.).
If anyone is considering a portable MP3 player for this holiday season, GO BUY ONE!
They also gave me price protection until Jan 7th due to Boxing day sale possibilities. Gotta like it!
