I am having a problem with the K7AMA motherboard. This is a new motherboard for a new P.C.
I have installed a Athlon 1.3ghz 266mhz Athlon with 256mb PC2100 DDR RAM. It has a heatsink+ fan which runs without a problem. I have only installed an AGP card.and all the other PCI slots are empty.
When I use a boot disk, it boots up to a DOS prompt but keeps throwing out messages which are strange (e.g divide overflow error). I have tried installing Win98 and Windows 2000 which both crash during installation. I have tried replacing the memory which didn’t make any difference. I have set the voltage for the DDR memory and changed the jumpers according to the manual (JP1 – Open, J5 – J14 Shorted). The bus speed is set to 133mhz. I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version which didn’t resolve the problem.I have even tried disabling the network (JP6) on the motherboard and the audio on the BIOS. This didn’t help either. I have also changed the AGP graphics card, Hard disk and CDROM which didn’t resolve the problem.
Do you have any recommendations? Is there any diagnostic utility to find out what the problem is?
