KB885884 update problem

XP SP2 loaded and appears fine. Next 2 updates are KB885884 and KB834707. Downloaded ok (?) and then they sit there with installing updates. Nothing happens tho. They do not appear in add/remove programs. They show as 0kb downloads if I go back to Windows update site. Cancelling supposed installing hangs there as cancelling. have removed SP2 and reloaded. Same problem with these 2 updates. They will not install. How do I remove the supposed installation and re-install?
