Keep searching for job or start study ...

By JugJava ·
Hi,
I have a B.S degree in Computer Engineering with 3 years of software development experience in Java technologies ( from India ) . I have a SCJP2 , Brainbench certifications in Java and J2EE.
I migrated to US in 2002 and since then have been out of the work force basically due to family reasons . I already have a Green Card so there are no sponsership issues. During this time I have been trying to keep myself updated on the latest technologies mainly J2EE etc. thru self study.

I have been trying to find a job for quite some time now and most of the places I have been rejected due to the career gap( which is frustrating.. ) . I even thought of taking some Java related certification, but the place I live has very less IT companies . And so somehow the thought of pursuing it did not interest me.

Above all I feel that programming is really not my cup of tea and would like to consider other options in IT.

I am looking into starting my Masters in Computer Information Systems ( concerntrating on s/w engineering and IT systems management ). Besides this taking some electives from the management school ( like marketing , management ). Do you think this is a good move ?

Besides this I know one cannot really guarantee that a higher degree will get me a job, but what all positions can i target for after completing it ??

I have a combined technology / business education myself, and I can tell you that it has helped me immensely with my career. It helped get into project management and then functional management. If you plan to stay with the technical stuff for the rest of your life, go for more technical education. But, if you see a career in senior management or consulting, be sure to get a balanced education.
