Keeping Cobol system alive

By r_r_s ·
We have a system with 10-15 Cobol programs running on digital Vax. As an intermediate solution we require this system to be converted into PC Cobol which can be processed using PCs with win 95. Since this is going to be integrated with a major system we do not intend in investing in development. Thanks in advance for solution.

While the transfer of COBOL programs from the VAX platform to any of the major PC-based COBOL products can be fairly simple tasks, it depends upon how much the existing COBOL programs used VAX-specific functions (such as system service calls). Those items will be the most difficult to translate to the new platform.

If the current VAX-based COBOL applications used little or no VAX-specific code, then you will probably have pretty straightforward tasks to get them to work on the PC's.

It is not realistic to expect NO development cost.
