I use Win 98 SE on my PC that has 128MB RD RAM and a 20GB hard disk . About a week back suddenly whenever I would do a SFC check the program would stop about 70 % through and a message would appear saying that the program has “performed an illegal operation and would stop …..” and that there has “been a kernel 32 error” in some modules with all details of the exact modules . I have tried everything from reloading the system files from the Win 98 CD a million times to a Norton 2003 anti-virus scan to a hard disk defrag to installing and running a program for keeping the RAM defraged and less overloaded . Its not a memory problem for sure . I have always run SFC without any problems and fully successfully . Also during the half bit of SFC running that does happen all right I am again and again told that a system file ‘setupx.dll’ may be corrupted and I should restore it and I always do from the Win 98 CD but on the next attempted SFC scan again I am asked to restore that same file . What should I do ? . My system is generally serving me all right and I can run all my other programs fine .
