Kernel32.exe errors

By lump_16 ·
I recently used Microsoft backup to backup everything on my old Hard drive (including systems settings) that had Win 98 non-SE then I installed Win 98 SE on my new Drive and restored my backup.

Now I've been getting alot of Kernel32.exe errors windows. And sometimes as soon as windows starts it comes up with a blue screen error and I have to re-boot.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Upon start up a access to hardware failed to initialize and a eror was recorded. To correct and not see the file error again, reload the operating system,or tryusing the boot disk and do a step by step configuration with (Y) at the end of each line, bybooting into safe mode.best option will be to reload the operating system by using cd rom only

The trick to restoring files from tape backup is to restore all files EXCEPT your registry files first, using the newly created system.dat and user.dat files that were installed with the new setup. After all other files have been restored, delete both user.dat and system.dat files and now restore the originals (as well as system.da0 and user.da0) from the tape backups.

I meant to add that this method will work for disk-to-disk restore as well.

The Kernel32.dll file can be replaced, yet the way that I have found is to reinstall the operating system via the cdrom only, that way it does not require reinstalling the applications that you have on the machine now."Donot use the boot disk." the configuration at startup when accessing hardware, which is where the Kernel32.dll is required, becomes corrupt at times when application are removes and the file is associated with that application.good luck

Try deleting your password cache for your userid (or all userids) and let the system rebuild them. Until I added SP1 to my 98 machine, that is the only way that I found to correct the problem. I am not sure if this will work for your problem, but try it out. You will find more info on this in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. hhp
