Keyboard and Mouse Portsq

By qhcomputingny ·
It seems that the ports on our Dell machine in our office is fried. Is there any way to order new ports and install them? Does it have to be connected to the motherboard somehow? Is this possible? Where can I buy these ports?
Thanks,
Eddie

Well, first you need to know if the ports are directly connected to your mother board or if they are connected via ribbon cable.
More then likely if they are on the board and you are 100 percent sure the port is fried, replace the mother board/ computer which ever is more cost effective

What makes you think the ports are fried?
Since it is a keyboard port then you need another motherboard, however, there are alternatives:
1. Get a USB keyboard/mouse if you have USB ports or intend to use those types of ports.
2. The mouse can connect to a ps/2 or serial connections through a ISA/PCI card. Check to see what connectors or adapters needed.
3. If the ports case is broke - you can hard wire the connections. BUT this takes practice! I am also assuming that 'fried' means physically broke and not the controller. Good Luck...email me if you have more info to give.
