Keyboard Mouse Issue

by philldmc . Updated 20 years, 4 months ago

I have a XP Pro SP2 system and for some reason the PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse will not work in Windows. They both work just fine in “safe mode” and keyboard functions off a dos boot disk and in bios.

In Windows the PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse are having an I/O conflict but If I unplug the PS/2 mouse (use a USB mouse) the keyboard has a corrupt or missing driver (code 39) error.

I have uninstalled the keyboard and mouse in safemode and in Windows but when Windows reinstalls the driver the problem comes back. I have flashed the bios, reset the bios, removed the battery in the bios and this does not seem to solve the problem. I did run a sfc /scannow and allowed to do its thing and then run Windows update and updated all chipset drivers and this did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions?
