I have an HP Pavilion dv5000. I originally had set a password in the BIOS to not allow the system to come up without it. I had left my notebook unattended and open on my desk. It had apparently gone into Standby mode while I was away. However, it would not come out of Standby mode so I had to power down…after this when I typed in my password, it wouldnot work. Each key was as if I was pressing two letters at the same time, even the ESC and backspace keys acted as if I pressed a letter. I, of course, could not access Windows without the password and could not even access the BIOS to remove the password. I removed the CMOS battery which reset the BIOS so I could access Windows. My keyboard works fine in Windows. I restarted the laptop a few more times attempting to access the BIOS to make sure everything was ok from the forced reset. Pressing the specific key to enter the BIOS failed. Any key pressed is as if I pressed no key at all. They don’t seem to work at all yet they work fine in Windows. I then upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version and that suggested by HP and still cannot use any keys to access the setup or BIOS. Anyone have any ideas on what could have caused this and what I ca do to correct it?
