keyboard password problem

I have a very strange problem I hope some tech savy person can help me with. My daughter’s dell comp has a password to open windows. her keyboard will not work, and the ports for it seem to be not working either. Her usb port works (mouse is able to use it) but when i plug keyboard into it won’t work. Can’t type in password because keyboard won’t work….ha ha …catch 22. I tried my keyboard (same one I’m typing on now) but it wouldn’t work….Any help would be greatly appreciated…..David.
