Keyboards

By blls009 ·
I spilled a drink into my key board, what should I do? I have a Gateway system and key board. I know this is a dumb question for someone in this form, but I'm do not know computers, and know that I will get a correct answer here. I have been reading your news letter for some time now and have learned a lot. Thank you to one and all.

Help, This is a rental unit.

ok bro,
This sounds like complete BullSh*t and I ain't pulling an april fools joke but as long as you dont have an enhanced keyboard with a mouse or touchpad integrated onto it you can just disconnect the keyboard and toss it in a dishwasher. NO LIE! I never wanted to believe it but it is taught in A+ classes and study guides and was even on the A+ exam. I wouldnt suggest any detergants just let the hot water blast it and let it air dry COMPLETELY. If all else fails dont worry about it Keyboards are on average 5 dollars for a cheapie and 25
for the snazzy Microsoft Natural over at the Wal-Mart.

i know spilling drinks seems like a horrible
mess and nobody knows what to do after a
spill but it is fairly easy to clean as red
neckerson said you can just toss it in the
dishwasher and without any detergent and let
it blast the drink off orif you dont want to
risk it you can take any electronic cleaning
spray and spray it into a bowl or cup of some
sort and clean it by hand with a qtip or
cotton balls you can use a rag to wipe the
keys off i reccomend this so that no keys
get broke in the dishwasher not as easy but
it works good

Listen to answer one. In the army, we used to open them up, pull the circuit board and thinfilm, stick the rest in the big dishwasher and go take a break. Most people can figure out how to put them back together if they watch what they take apart. Some of the newer kbds with usb hubs and volume controls etc can be a pain, but not that hard. Also, you don't have much to lose. By the way I have two kids and one of those kbs so I speak from experience.

If the drink was sugar based you will want to rinse the keyboard with just warm water in your kitchen sink with the sprayer. Make sure it is completely dry, maybe wait a day after letting it dry out and try it. It should work and all your troubleswill go away. It isn't recomended to wet electronics but as long as they are detached from the power source it will work. Good Luck.
