L2 cache

HI
You have to Know what type of CPU you have and motherboard specially if they are old ones. Since the technology have change since the Pentium Pro. You may not need to purchase it and built in your CPU. The other option is to buy another CPU with more cache.

Level 1 or primary cache is built directly into the processor. It is very small and its size from 8KB up to 64 KB. On theother hand level 2 cache or external cache resides outside the processor. It is usually found either on the motherboard or a card that could be inserted into the motherboard. This was in the old technology before Intel Pentium Pro which has the level 2 cache in the same package as the processor itself but not the same circuit where the processor and level 1 cache are. It size from 64 KB up to 2 MB depending on the type of processor or model. It is very expensive compare to RAM.

Good luck

Back in the days of 486, and the early Pentium motherboards, you could add Cache RAM to the motherboard.

All 'Modern' motherboards have some Cache RAM built in.
For some motherboards, you can enable / disable some cache RAM in BIOS settings.

However, you can no longer physically add cache RAM to any modern motherboard.

What you can do, is choose a CPU with additional Cache RAM.
Super Socket 7, use an AMD K6-III
Slot 1, Use a Pentium over a Celeron
Socket 370, again, use a Pentium in place of a Celeron.
Socket A, use an Athlon over a Duron

The primary difference between the low end CPUs, and the high end CPUs is the amount of Cache that is built onto the CPU.
