LAN and GPU failure same day

    Hi,
This morning my desktop wouldn’t connect to the internet. Reset my Ethernet switch and checked cables and it came back on.

Later on that day I came in to find my desktop had shut off. When I pressed the power button, nothing. I replaced the CMOS battery as it was about 10 years old and still nothing. Pulled out the GPU and it fired up. I ended putting in an old GTX 560 I had laying around and it worked as well. However, the LAN adapter was completely dead now. Windows could not see it so I ended up using a USB WiFi adapter just so I had internet.

With everything that happened, in the same day mind you, I thought maybe I had an MBD problem. I wanted to make sure my drivers/BIOS was up to date when I discovered that my MBD isn’t even supported by Windows 10, although it had been running it for a couple years now.
So, is it possible that my LAN adapter just happen to fail the same day as my GPU? Totally possible. Although neither had been acting up in any way prior. I’m also wondering if my MBD could have caused these failures. The LAN adapter is on-board but maybe it just failed on its own.

If you were in my boat, would you just get a new GPU and move on? Or is it time to upgrade everything? I rather not spend a lot of money right now, but I don’t want to buy a new GPU and have it damaged by my system.

    Here’s my specs:

MBO – Asus p8z68-v lx – around 10 years old. Z68 chipset, 1155 socket. YIKES LOL
CPU – i7-2600k – I feel like this is still viable.
GPU – GTX970 (failed unit) GTX 560 (temp replacement) – thinking about going to a RX580 in this setup.
    RAM – HyperX DDR3 1866 2x8GB
    PSU – EVGA Supernova 1000W 80+

A complete upgrade would look like this:

    MBO – Gigabyte GA-b365m ds3h
    CPU – i5-9600k
    GPU – RX580
    RAM – G. Skill DDR4 3200 2x8GB
    SAME PSU, case, SSD.

Just as a side note: I disassembled the GPU and could not find any damage. Not a bit of dust or buildup anywhere. The thing looks brand new. Nothing burnt or fried. Thermal paste was good and intact. And no issues prior to failure.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
