we have a unconfig switch 16 port. 8 client. 1 server. internet modem router. this small LAN network take IP address automatically and work properly. their IP range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255. when we turn modem router on, network failed and IP range for server and client changed to 169.254..... and when we turn modem router off after server restart they work properly. now we gave them static ip and now all things is ok. why when we give them automatically ip, network failed and client and server ip range, changed?

Hello,

Did you confirm the router is not using the same ip address as the switch? Did you confirm the router and the switch are not both set to have DHCP server services enabled? Can you provide some information on how they are all connected? What port is the switch using on the router (lan or wan)

LAN network

If the device itself is a combo device it very well could be performing the DHCP functions. If the server is set up to do the DHCP then there could be a conflict between the server and modem/router. The 169.254.x.x is an APIPA address that the network card hands out to itself in the event it cannot communicate with the DHCP server on the network. If the server doesnt have the DHCP role then I am unsure as to why it is occurring without being there to distinguish the reason.
