LAN storage

By wael_tawfek ·
My drive is LAN storage (i.e. it is connected directly to the router as it has LAN port RJ45). I connected it to the router and opened port 21 for FTP but the problem is when i restart my router my external internet IP changes and hence i can not locate my drive over the internet. Can you help to make my internet IP static?

Dynamic DNS

by Churdoo In reply to LAN storage

Sign up for a (free) Dynamic DNS service such as http://dyndns.com.

With these services, you choose your own hostname from one of their dynamic dns domains, like myplace.dyndns.org, and you install a small appelet on a workstation inside your router which updates the ddns server each time your IP changes. You refer to your site by the DNS NAME myplace.dyndns.org which is always kept up to date.
