LAN to WAN – 2 router question

    by sk124 ·

    Tags:

Hi, I have setup 2 router LAN to WAN installation. 192.168.1.1/24 is my Public Facing LAN (for IoT’s) & 192.168.2.1/24 is my Private LAN.

I am able to ping any MAC address in Public LAN from Private LAN – no issues.

However, I want to access a specific (exception) MAC address in my Private LAN from a MAC address in my Public LAN. Can I do this? How? Any help would be much appreciated.

Usually we ping by IP number. And we use “arp” to well, get the IP.

Your question appears to need an edit or clarification.

Read https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/how-to-ping-a-mac-address/ to cover this in another angle.

Hope to hear from you soon.

What I meant regarding MAC address is not just ping. I want a piece of software in my PUBLIC LAN to access/talk to a PC in my PRIVATE LAN.

Until we clear up this reference to the MAC address we can’t begin.

Once we know the IP address we might look at the DMZ or port forwarding depending on the needs of the device, app and network but we can’t start until the MAC address reference is explained.
