I am trying to help a friend out who has a new office, installed are a small business network switch 1-8X ports patching to patch bays underneath. and another 8 port directly after the 8X i'm guessing is for inter from a router or Modem!
Firstly i'm guessing the LAN should work without a DHCP ADSL router plugged if all machines are static ips, same subnet?
Secondly if i then use the router, do i just need to set the routers ip with the same range as the machines, turning off the DHCP to then enable internet into the network?
Also do the cables need to be X cables without the router or just patch cables
One other thing DNS will the LAN work without this being set?
