All of the laptop manufacturers that I am aware of all say that you should only use “their” brand AC adapter with their laptops. Well, it seems the major brands (and minor ones) are in the habit of selling these AC adapters for far in excess of what I can get on eBay.
So my question is, before I fry my laptop, if I have an AC adapter (assuming standard AC input) with an output of 19V & 3.16A and I find an adapter with the same output (and same connectors, obviously), will it work with my laptop? Basically, are adapters standard (as they seem to be with most everything else) or are they truly proprietary to the manufacturer? Thanks!
