Laptop Boot Problem

By ScarletDog ·
I have a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDS laptop that when the power on switch is pushed, powers up, flashes the toshiba logo, then the windows splash screen, youi can hear the hard drive being accessed. but from this point just flops between the toshiba logo and the windows splash screen, back & forth. However it will boot into windows safe mode.

Unfortunately, this sounds like a bad system file (maybe winlogon.exe) I think that a re-install of the OS may be in order.

You didn't say which flavor of Windows you have but...

You probably have a corupt driver for either the NIC, MODEM, VIDEO ADAPTOR, or something equally as pesky.

While you are in safe mode look at system configuration specificly drivers and conflicts.

Have you recently changed any hardware etc?

You may have to go through and force loading new drivers. Check for new drivers on the internet. Sometimes windows loads a generic standard catch all driver that "ain't worth a flip" and proves the plug and pray complicity of Windows.

Good Luck...j

I agree with post 2. Toshiba laptops used to come with a recovery CD. This CD gave you an option to format the drive and start from scratch with a default Toshiba image. The other option was to remove and renistall drivers. What is nice about the CD was that it contained all the correct drivers for that model. I would try the CD. If that doesn't work then go to the web site.

Win98 OS, used msconfig to regenerate the win.ini & system.ini files. then could boot into windows normally. Still had to re-install the drivers for the screen and a wireless LAN pcmcia as well as re-capture the network printer.
