Laptop Dialup Networking

By admin ·
What would stop a Win98 dialup laptop connection from returning a ping, tracert, or allowing Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Given Known Facts:
1. Firewall is not blocking
2. Same laptop connects to other sites,
allows OWA, pingand tracert.
3. Other laptops w/ same configuration
can ping, tracert, are allowed OWA

What's the quality of your line? Try a "ping -t address". This will repeatedly send the ping and you may indeed see a response. If this doesn't work you should check with the SysAdmin to ENSURE that he/she has not restricted those utilities from executing over the network. I say this because you indicate the laptop works fine on other networks. Maybe someone isn't telling you the whole story.........

Quality if line yeilds a 50+k dialup connection to ISP. I am sysadmin--no stoppers here. Other laptops make this connection.

DNS/IP is assigned by ISP server which works with other sites. It's an INET connection.
