laptop disaster!!

By ameliapumo ·
I (very foolishly!! left my Dell dimension 2500 laptop on the floor of my friends house. It was turned off, but not in it's case. After returning from a night out, I discovered to my horror her radiator had leaked all over it.

I have not tried to turn it on yet. I have had it in front of a heater fan to try to dry it out. Have I any hope?

I have seen laptops get a bit wet from rain and survive. I would wait until it was thoroughly dry and then wait another day before trying it. Then remove the battery and plug the system into the wall socket. If it looks good from here (the power light goes on) try turning it on BUT: keep one hand ready to pull the plug out of the system in case something does go wrong.

Or take it to a repair shop.

Unless you turn it on when wet nothing should happen. As additional advice to answer #1 I suggest to "dissassemble" all possible, like get battery, pull CD-ROM, floppy, PC cards, remove screws and open "memory cover", if possible, remove keyboard. It will increase air flow and laptop will dry faster.

Good luck,
