laptop keys not functioning

By garyb205 ·
I tried installing a wireless keyboard and mouse to my Compaq Evo 410 laptop. The wireless devices did not work, and now, none of the keys on the laptop work. I have connected an external keyboard and mouse for now, but how can I get the laptop keys to function properly? I am running windows 2000 on this machine.

First go to control panel, open keyboard and go to the hardware tab. You will likely two keyboards listed there, select the integrated keyboard.

Secondly, go to computer properties, then go to device manager. look at the installed keyboards on the system. Disable or delete the wireless keyboard. The integrated keyboard will start working again.

Wireless keyboards can be very fussy about how they are installed, particularly with W2K. Check the manufacturers website for the the latest driver AND the setup instructions. Follow the instructions to the T, I had similar problems with a Logitech on W2k a few years ago.
