Laptop Keys Not Working

By c.simmons ·
Here is what happended in a nutshell. I have an Averatec 6200, that has worked fine, with the exception of minor things. I have a password setup on my log in and enter it everytime to log into WINXP. I turned on the laptop today and attempt to input the password but only get the little Windows Hand when placing the cursor over the password input area. Have tried FN key in combo with every other key and I still cannot input the password.

Any ideas: Calvin

If it is still under warranty, call their tech support. If not, does KB work to get into BIOS? If so, check settings. Safe Mode? If nothing still, plug in an external KB and try a Repair (if it allows you to) from the recovery disk. If nothing, how adventurous are you? If NOT very, take it to a repair shop specializing in laptops. If YOU ARE, disassemble the laptop and check the KB connector to the MB (go slowly, document the steps to take it apart and be VERY careful). Remove and reinsert the connector all the way. Occasionally these can work their way out of the connector (although this is rare).

Thanx for your answer. Keyboard does not allow me to get into BIOS, so I will get another keyboard and get in like this. I don't mind popping it open but I've been trying to call tech support to check the warranty and if I can just send it in.

Thanks a mill..........Cal

Keys should be FN + F10 or F11
