    HI there…

My ACER Aspire 3610 has been giving me grief – when I plug it in to charge the battery, the light on the psu flashes intermittently; I frequently get the “low battery” warning; and now, it will not function with the battery removed…

    Helllllllllllllllllllpppp…please…greatly appreciated…

Besides providing an recepticle for the adapter jack, but it also has a switch inside the connector. Rough handling or jamming of the jack while mounted will even break the whole thing loose. The unit is intermittent and don’t seem to be charging either. That can be an expensive repair as it is mounted to the motherboard. It requires the proper equipment and tools but it can be done.

Has this Aspire suffered any form of trauma?

Particularly falling off a desk of having been dropped a few feet onto the floor?

The main cause of this particular component to fail is shock caused by a fall – causing a fracture to the connector socket where it is soldered onto the motherboard – Acer’s own comment.

This particular problem usually requires replacement of the motherboard under warranty. If the warranty has expired I would suggest you approach a local computer shop for an independent repair, as they may be able to solder a new connector socket.

If it is still under warranty I would return it for repair. Acer are usually quick – about one week turnround.
