Laptop Rebooting

By fraykh ·
I have a Toshiba Laptop that has XP Pro loaded on it. It keeps rebooting and it is not letting me get to the command prompt. If I try to boot from the XP CD it tells me to run the chkdsk when I try to run the repair option.
Anybody has an idea on what I should do????
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Did you try going to Safe Mode (F8)?

Also, try the following article

In the meantime, I will check other alternatives.

Jos?

Did you run the chkdsk?? make sure you run it as chkdsk /r , It will take a while as it tries to repair itself.

This is a symptom of either the W32Welchia.worm or the W32Blaster.worm viruses. Go to

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

and get the virus removal tool for each virus and run them. Norton does not usually pick up on the viruses and you need the removal tool to get rid of them.

We have been using Toshiba Laptops for years now. In each case the power switch and or motherboard has been replaced. From Talking to the tech that came out to repair this has been a defect in a couple of models the 6100 series and the 2400 series. Both systems were still under warranty hopefully yours is too.
