    Laptop security internet

    Locked

    by kashmeir63 ·

    Hi,
I have a cell phone that I will be hooking up to my laptop so I can get the internet on my laptop.
I know I need some kind of a firewall. I was thinking about purchasing Norton’s internet security software as protection. Does anybody know if this is good protection or should I look into some other kind of software. Any help would be appreciated.

I used NIS and it was fine. Personally, I prefer ZoneAlarm, just due to the interface. I like ZA’s interface better.
If your laptop has WinXP, there is a built-in firewall too.
And there are other firewalls like Tiny Personal Firewall.
The thing you hear about software firewalls is that the really good ones (like ZA) alert you when a program tries for the first time to access the Internet. This is a good spyware/trojan detection method. If you are just surfing around, then you get a popup notice saying some strange program wants to connect to the Internet, it might mean that a nasty program was just loaded on your system.
The XP firewall does not have this notification. NIS does (as I remember) and ZA does.

      hope this helps

Are you using Win XP Pro OS in your laptop?

If yes, then turn on the ICF for your Internet Connection.

Its a firewall provided by Ms.
