I recently acquired a Gateway MX6625 laptop that was non-functional. I replaced the motherboard because the old one had been zapped (I suspect it was because the power connectors’ soldering on the board was burned) and the laptop wouldn’t turn on or anything…no lights, etc. Anyway, I replaced the board and it boots up fine now. I purchased a new battery for this unit as well, because if it had been zapped, I didn’t want to use a bad batt. When I put the new batt in, the laptop will start to boot into Windows and then will just shut off. If I remove the battery, the laptop will run no problem. When I have the unit off and I just plug it in to see if the batt will charge, the purple light (charging light) comes on for about a minute and then will go out. Then it will come back on about 20 seconds later and then go out after a minute and back and forth it goes. The batt never gets a charge.
So to recap, I have a new mobo, new batt, it works fine on AC power alone, but not with the batt in. I have to take the batt out and just use AC power. I have also tried a different AC adapter (same volts, amps, etc.) for fun and it does the same thing.
Any suggestions?
