Laptop to IDE?

By xamyne ·
I bought a adapter for my lappy HD to connect it to a PC but it won't work. I booted the computer up and windows installed device drivers for the hard drive. There was no selection of it anywhere on the computer so I rebooted. The BIOS has the info for the HD on it and I selected for it to boot from that drive but I get an error message. It says disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. Just wanting some insight on what I might could do. Thanks

Well, you most likely won't be able to boot from that drive

The OS on that drive is set up to run the laptop, not your PC.

If you just want to get data off the drive while connected to the PC, boot the PC drive, right-click My Computer > Manage > Disk Management, and see if the drive is listed there. (These instructions are for XP - please let us know what both operating systems are for further instruction.) If it is listed but you still can't access it, click Action > rescan disks.

If it's showing in Disk Manager

and not in My Computer you may have to assign a drive letter.
