laptop won't boot after long time of sitting

By ksmith ·
Generally I don't have issues like this, but I've had my laptop sitting for about a month, because when I was home I'd use my desktop and while at work I'd use theirs. However, I got a new phone the other day and I went to hook it up to the laptop...but it wouldn't turn on. I'd heard taking the battery off and putting it back on helps, so I did that. The computer turned on and went to the windows loading screen. It stayed there a lot longer then normal, then gave me the blue screen of death (I haven't seen it for years). Since then I haven't had a great deal of time to mess with it, but I tried to turn it on multiple times since, to no avail. What are some other things I should try? I am currently looking for the os install disk so that I can do a test and repair.

Hi, please try the following:

1. check ur charger' output voltage.
2. when u connect to ur laptop check is it charging.

Now if these things r ok. then u have to open it and reset or remove the battery for little time to reset to default the Bios.

Please note if it is under warrenty contact ur dealer.

charging

by ksmith In reply to Please try !!

The laptop is charging when connected. Do you mean for me to open my laptop up and take the smaller battery out from inside and reset the BIOS, or just disconnect and reconnect the battery from the back. I have already done the second option.

I can't find the disks that came with the computer right now, but will try to boot off the cd and run a detect and repair to see if that clears up the issue. Otherwise I will contact the dealer as I believe it is still under warranty.

safe mode?

by sgt_shultz In reply to laptop won't boot after l ...

you've probably already tried to boot in safe mode? if you can, you can disable the reboot on system error option (see Control Panel/System/advanced/startup and recovery options) then it will freeze at the blue screen so you can see it

safe mode

by ksmith In reply to safe mode?

I have tried booting into safe mode. It starts loading the files, then freezes at the bottom of the page. So I can't get in that way. Hopefully I can find the disks tomorrow. Today was a full day and I didn't get back till after midnight. I will look tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far.
