LAPTOP WON'T BOOT UP AFTER XP SP3 INSTALLATION

By ashwinr ·
I recently loaded XP SP3 (using the stand alone installation file which I downloaded from the Microsoft website)on an Acer laptop(Core 2 Duo Intel processor, 2GB RAM). After running through the installation and clicking on the "Finish" button to restart the PC, the machine reboots and gets as far as the XP splash screen and then the screen goes totally blank. After powering down the laptop using the power button and the trying to boot into both "Safe Mode" and "Last known good config", the PC still won't boot up. Is there any way to sort this out? Please help!!!

How long are you waiting till?.

Sometimes on a slow system it takes a bit of time for the updates to still load even when you though it had done. With SP3 it installs the updates and then reboots the computer, then it installs some more before it boots into your log in screen, so you will just have to wait until you see the screen. :)
Just give it more time.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

STILL WON'T LOAD

Hi. No matter how long I wait the laptop still won't display its screen. Is it possible the VGA driver has been corrupted?

Go into safe mode and delete SP3

And then restart your laptop.
Once done reinstall SP3 and this time wait until the "blank screen" goes away and you will have your desktop back, it is because you did not wait for it to install fully that made your laptop behave this way.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.
