laptop wont stay connected to wireless

By danyelle0709 ·
I have a windows vista HP computer. I can connect fine through a wire, dial up, etc. But, when i try to connect to a wireless connection from an open network through my school, it refuses to stay connected. I've tried several times and sometimes it will connect and disconnect within 2 minutes other times it won't connect at all. I have excellent signal strength and have been able to connect wireless in the past. Can you help?

One more Vista issue

Actually, my sister is having the same issue except she can't connect at all. If nothing else works, try uninstalling the wireless connection driver via Device Manager. Restart your computer and let Vista reload the driver. Or go to HP's website and redownload the driver maybe it needs to be updated.

1st double, or triple check, that you don't have a static IP assigned to the wireless device.

2nd run a command prompt as the administrator (right click the command prompt and select 'run as administrator') and do an ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. I've had problems with my 64-bit Vista installation on my laptop, but usually doing the manual IP refresh and renew resolves the issue.
