laptop wont type the letter ‘c’ then infinite ‘c’s’ appear with no contact

Iturned on my laptop, and was writing an email and the ‘c’ key on my keyboard would not work.

However when continuing to type ‘c’s’ would just appear in the middle of worked and if fast typing was stopped or slowed down ‘c’s’ would just appear like this ‘ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc’ without me even touching the keyboard, and wouldn’t stop appearing until I pressed delete.

Can any one help me in finding whats going on here? I have a toshiba satellite pro laptop.

      The ‘c’ key is jamming…

Most likeley cause is that it has been knocked out of its normally-seated position.

You may have a small piece of something fallen between ‘c’ and the other keys.

A small thin piece of cardboard (something bendy and quite soft) can be used between the keys to dislodge whatever is in there.

A can of compressed air (that comes with a little ‘straw’ for aiming the jet) can be useful in this instance.

Eventually you will dislodge whatever is causing this.

I would not advise prying the key up unless absolutely necessary because the clips holding the keys in place are quite fragile – once broken you would require a new keyboard.

As well you may also like to check out the Keyboard by removing it first, then attempting to clean it out just to make sure that there is nothing jamming the Key.

I have seen this several times previously with an L key and in every case it’s been a shot M’Board controller that has been the problem. If you want to check this out disconnect the built in Keyboard and plug in a external Keyboard and try every Key using the external Keyboard. If the problem persists you have a shot IO Controller which is the problem if it doesn’t you can have a jammed Key or a sticking Key or a defective Keyboard.
