large file size in Word 2k

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this. I’m running Office 2000. Every now and then when I save a document it will be too large in size. For example a two-page letter is 8Mb. There is nothing in the letter. The font and font size are
set to thedefaults. No special features are running, like auto save, fast saves, track changes, versions, and embed fonts. I’ve been all over Microsoft web site and can’t find a solution. Any suggestions would be helpful.
